A kameez shalwar looks its best when it fits well. Too tight and it pulls across the chest. Too loose and it looks untidy. The good news is that you can measure yourself at home in about five minutes. All you need is a soft measuring tape and one helper.
What you need to measure
- Chest: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms. Keep it level and not too tight.
- Shoulder: Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, across your back.
- Kameez length: Start at the highest point of your shoulder, next to your neck, and measure down to where you want the kameez to end. Most men like it at the knee or just below.
- Sleeve length: Measure from the edge of your shoulder to your wrist bone, with your arm slightly bent.
- Waist: Measure around your natural waist, where you normally wear your shalwar.
- Shalwar length: Measure from your waist down to the ankle bone.
Tips for an accurate measurement
- Measure over a thin shirt, not over a thick jacket or sweater.
- Stand straight and relax. Do not hold your breath.
- Ask someone to help. It is hard to measure your own back and shoulders.
- Write the numbers down and measure twice.
Leave a little room
A kameez should be comfortable. You should be able to sit, lift your arms and eat a meal easily. A good rule is to leave about two fingers of space at the chest. If you plan to wear a waistcoat over your kameez, choose a size that is comfortable with both on.
Between two sizes?
If your measurements fall between two sizes, choose the bigger one if you like a relaxed fit, or the smaller one if you like a neat, close fit. If you are not sure, send us your measurements and we will help you choose.
